If you do not know Glassman, you have not dealt with CrossFit, and conversely, there is not a single crossfit athlete who has not heard about Mr. Greg, as well as the Pukie clown and Uncle Rhabdo. No, this is not the same person, but these names are forever inscribed in the history of the sport as something cohesive and inseparable.
Greg Glassman is a former gymnast, permanent leader and almost monarch, fitness of the CF’s empire including 650 gyms and fitness centers. In 1980 he developed his system of integrated training (CrossFit), and in 1995 opened his first hall. There are a lot of rumors and talks about this man, they are all different, contradictory and full of disagreements. On the one hand, barricades are devoted to their commander athletes, on the other, numerous opponents of the new concept of training and Glassman in particular, among whom are former CF coaches.
CrossFit training in the life of an athlete
Let’s start with a fly in the ointment, which is trying to spoil the CrossFit training. The main reason why the Glassman system is subjected to countless attacks by sports critics is the discomfort of newcomers, caused not by standard physical activity schemes. Almost daily, exhausting CrossFit workouts, a huge number of repetitions in sets, with heavy weights and high rate of exercise, lead to the depletion of the energy reserves of a non-prepared organism. As a consequence, nausea and rhabdomyolysis are muscle fiber ruptures that enter the bloodstream and adversely affect the kidneys, worsening the condition of the body as a whole.
Thanks to these symptoms, two CrossFit emblems appeared: Pukie clown and Uncle Rhabdo. Mature CrossFit athletes assure that the weakest and most useless representatives of the CF movement are affected by such symptoms, which are not among the main groups of trainees. Despite this, many proudly wear T-shirts depicting the bleating clown Pukie and compare such cases in their lives, with an exam or transition to an “adult” sporting life. Reviews of CrossFit go different and yes, there are those who call the clown Pukie and Uncle Rhabdo an advertising trick. According to critics, this is just a duck raising the rating and causing respect to newcomers to the veterans of CrossFit.
CrossFit programs and load
In order to delve deeper into the process, we will analyze the basic principles and schemes of studies on CF. CrossFit training for beginners lasts no more than 30 minutes and consists of a warm-up, the main part and a hitch. You can also say about the exercises of experienced Crossfitters. Loads during training are divided into three types, gymnastic exercises with the weight of their own body (push-ups on the bars, push-ups and other strength exercises, using the weight of their own body), cardio loads (running, bicycle, etc.) and exercises with weights (dead lift, bench, etc.). In the first power CrossFit one type of load should be used, in the second training second and on the third – the other. The fourth day is a day of rest. All exercises are performed on time, with high intensity and often till failure. There is no break between exercises, at the end of one, you should immediately move on to the next one – such a program is called Crossfire. Individual selection of exercises is possible; the only condition is observance of the above features.
An important point about which to tell is CrossFit programs through pain. It is believed that progress entirely depends on this feeling. Naturally, we are talking about muscle tension and hypoxia (lack of breathing), and not about calluses, sprains and dislocations. Only a constant and controlled increase in many-sided loads will give a good result. CrossFit training program for beginners – it is not an easy task and if you do not strive to be better and faster than everyone, overcoming the “right” pain, you will not see any progress.
CrossFit Exercises – More Than Just Fitness
In a nutshell, CF can be defined as a system of general physical training. CrossFit exercises develop three functional characteristics of the body – endurance, explosive force and coordination. The basic version of this system is not specialized, there is no definite focus on the development of specific professional skills, this option is suitable for fitness enthusiasts CrossFit, who want to lose weight and strengthen the muscle frame. But at the same time, complexes of specially selected exercises from the CF are successfully used in training, professionals from different sports. For example, Chuck Liddell, a well-known MMA fighter who uses variations on the theme of the CF in his training, is sure that endurance is the reason for his many victories.
“I had to meet fighters who were stronger than me, but I crushed them because they did not have enough breath,” the athlete admitted.
– “On the ring, no one will allow me to rest for 90-120 seconds in the spirit of bodybuilding. Therefore, my strength training should resemble a real fight.”
And so, let’s sum up. If you like extreme sports, if you are a fighter or a bodybuilder who has decided to change the type of load for another month, the CrossFit exercises are for you. If you are a housewife, a firefighter or a man of age – there are no problems, the program will remain the same, only the intensity and level of physical activity will change. If you want to test your body and spirit on the fortress, and the thirst for adventure is boiling in your veins, the CrossFit training program is exactly what you need.
